The parameterization of the RMOD-K FB is based on a series of measurements, the scope of which depends on the use of the model in the simulations. A standard measurement has been successfully followed in the past. Nevertheless, changes can be useful in concrete projects, e.g. the reduction of certain measurements (e.g. modal analysis or force and moments) or the addition of specific measurements (e.g. temperature distributions), if the project goals make this necessary.

The standard measurement contains

  1. General data (tire and rim dimension and mass)
  2. Topology data (cross section, belt angle)
  3. Force and Moments (F&M)
  4. Static stiffness
  5. Cleat measurements
  6. Modal system

Details of each measurement group:

  • General Data: Tire dimension: tire width, aspect ratio, rim radius, load index, rim width, rim type, reference inflation pressure, tire mass without rim
  • Topology Data: cross section of outer and inner line in rim mounted position uninflated and under inflation pressure or alternative only outer line and thickness distribution for each 10mm, belt and other layer angle.
  • Vertical stiffness on drum or flat road including inner contact, longitudinal Stiffness (0.4, 0.8 and 1.2 LI up to 10mm longitudinal displacement), lateral stiffness (0.4, 0.8 and 1.2 LI up to 20mm lateral displacement) and torsional stiffness (parking measurement) (0.4, 0.8 and 1.2 LI up to 15degree steer angle) for zero rolling velocity.
  • Force and Moments (F&M): measurements for traction and steering at 80km/h - 100km/h (LI-based i.e.: 0.15, 0.3, 0.45, 0.6, 0.75, 1.0) or Magic Formula 5.2 tire files
  • Cleat Measurements: 0 and 45 degree cleat on drum (drum radius and surface type) with fixed hub for a set of longitudinal velocity (30, 60 90 km/h) at nominal inflation pressure, vertical load (0.5, 0.8 and 1.1 LI) and different cleat dimensions corresponding to length and height (5mm x 10mm, 20mm x 20mm, for 45 degree cleats only 20mm x 20mm; cleat phase must be known), measurement rim's moment of inertia about rolling axis.
  • Modal System: modes and mode shape of rigid modes, radial modes and tangential modes up to 300 Hz of an unloaded tire under inflation pressure with fixed rim.
